ABAQUS and ANSYS Implementations of the Peridynamics-Based Finite Element Method (PeriFEM) for Brittle Fractures

In this study, we propose the first unified implementation strategy for peridynamics in commercial finite element method (FEM) software packages based on their application programming interface using peridynamics-based (PeriFEM). Using ANSYS and ABAQUS as examples, present numerical results details of PeriFEM FEM software. is a reformulation traditional solving peridynamic equations numerically. It considered that non-local features yet possesses same computational framework FEM. Therefore, benefits from consistent frameworks both An implicit algorithm used ABAQUS; however, different convergence criteria are adopted owing to unique features. ANSYS, APDL enables users conveniently obtain broken-bond information UPFs; thus, criterion chosen no new broken bond. ABAQUS, obtaining not convenient users; default ABAQUS. The codes integrated into verified through benchmark costs compared. show that, some specific more efficient, whereas robust. Finally, 3D examples presented demonstrate ability proposed approach deal with complex engineering problems.
